Trying Not to Give Peace a Chance

Ray McGovern, a former military intelligence officer and CIA analyst now on the Steering Group of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS), has written an essay about the current situation in Ukraine. “The unnecessary and regrettable conflict between the U.S. and Russia over Ukraine brings to mind sad remembrances of important junctures at which I watched — as a citizen and a CIA analyst — chances for genuine peace with Russia frittered away.” He says it reminds him of the Bay of Pigs, described in the book Project Unspeakable was inspired by, which he describes as the “masterful JFK and the Unspeakable“.

McGovern describes with regret all the lost opportunities for peace between the US and Russia from the 1960s through to the present day, and presents his obvious solution to the current crisis.
